There is an old saying in China, 30 years for Hedong and 30 years for Hexi, which describes the unpredictable times. In fact, the same is true for college students choosing majors.

How many professions that once flourished have become unpopular in the blink of an eye because of industry challenges. How many college majors that were originally considered "sunset" have been rejuvenated due to the development of the times.

The following three majors were once prosperous, but now no one cares.

(1) Bioengineering

Anyone who has a little knowledge of university and employment should know that the major of bioengineering is the first of the "three majors that persuade to quit".

How many people listened to the slogan that the 21st century is the century of biology, and then chose the biology major. But I didn't expect to find out after I entered that the things I have learned are complex but not precise, there are few counterparts, it is difficult to find employment, and the salary is low. It is not easy to do research.

But in fact, around 2000, the biology major was really a popular major. At that time, biotechnology was just emerging, and everyone was pouring money into it. Graduate salaries are not good. That's why the 21st century is the actual statement of biology.

However, after a "disruption", it was found that the biological industry could not bring big returns in the short term. Capital has ebbed, and biology majors have become half-dead.

(2) Petroleum engineering

From 2005 to 2007, it was the most glorious era of petroleum engineering. At that time, the international oil price rose steadily, and all the oil companies made a lot of money.

Therefore, the salaries of college graduates in related majors are also very high. In those days, it was possible to open a monthly salary of tens of thousands of yuan at every turn.

However, with the collapse of international oil prices in 2008, most companies in the oil industry went bankrupt. Layoffs and pay cuts abound. The petroleum profession has also lost its former glory. Still haven't been relieved.

(3) Metal materials

Materials science and engineering is also one of the top three majors for dismissal, with few counterparts and low salaries.

But 10 years ago, this was not the case. Around 2009, the national steel industry developed rapidly, and the demand for college students majoring in materials was very high, so the materials major at that time was a sweet pastry.

But a few years later, there was excess steel production capacity, and a large number of steel plants were on the verge of bankruptcy, with massive layoffs and pay cuts. Demand for college students has also shrunk sharply. to become what it is today.

Conclusion: Our university takes at least 4 years, and if you go to graduate school, it adds up to 7 years. Seven years later, will today's popular majors still be popular? Therefore, it is really difficult to choose a major, and it should be carefully considered.
