When filling out the college entrance examination volunteers, what are we choosing?

After the college entrance examination results came out, "filling in the volunteers" became the top priority.

In addition to the saying "one test determines life", "choice" will be more important. After all, getting good grades in the test is the job of the candidates, and choosing a good major is a matter of the whole family.

I have also received some inquiries recently, especially about "choose a major first, then study a school" or "choose a school first, then choose a major", or whether to choose a city or not.

I asked a few classmates who worked in colleges and universities after graduation, and found that there are three questions that may inspire families who "choose a major".

  1. Look at majors from the perspective of employment choices

Ask a question: What kind of jobs do you think economics students will do?

When the word economy came out, the original intention of many people was actually: want to know how to make money quickly. But the reality is, in fact, the level of economists' stock speculation is not as high as that of ordinary people. Because most of the courses that are really related to investment are the professional direction of graduate students, and only one or two courses are taken for undergraduates.

In addition, from the perspective of the job market, economics, finance, management, international trade, business administration, these subjects will not teach you to make money. After all, doing business and starting a business depends more on talent and environment, and learning can only say "find a job in these fields" instead of earning more, faster, and easier money.

I asked a friend who works in an investment company. He said that if the job is related to investment, they would prefer to recruit students with basic majors such as mathematics and physics.

However, those who choose economics should not be discouraged. There is one industry who likes economics very much, and that is: the game industry. Especially the top gaming industry.

Wang Xinwen, a bigwig in the game industry, once explained:

Game designers want to design a small society in a virtual world and run a set of endless game rules, so people who study economics, especially behavioral economics, are especially suitable for this.

Therefore, majors and employment are not necessarily "corresponding", but can be viewed from two perspectives.

  1. Which city, school or major should you choose first?

This is probably the most confusing.

My advice is: choose a major first.

As for "must be a famous school", "closer to home", etc., row back.

As mentioned earlier, major ≠ employment, but major determines which core skill you have trained in 4 years. Just like economics, it actually trains systematic thinking; while basic subjects such as mathematics and physics train abstract thinking and logical thinking ability; English majors do not learn English, but learn "how native English speakers think about problems" ",and many more.

If you don't know much about this, you have two options:

First, ask someone with experience, or go to the university's website to check the setting of professional courses. (These materials are generally public, and you can find them by looking carefully on the school's official website.)

Second, if I really don’t know the professional society of the university and whether I am suitable for this major, I can choose from the city, which we will talk about later.

If you have determined a major, you can check the rankings by major. Pay attention to the professional strength, not the overall strength and reputation of the school.

The advantage of this is that each school will invest more resources in its own ace major to ensure the strength of this major, so there is no need to worry too much about the conditions of running a school.

Of course, you must also choose the one you are relatively sure of, in line with your own performance range. Otherwise, it will be more troublesome to adjust the file.

In this way, after selecting a major and selecting a few schools, you can sort by "city".

At this time, there are usually two sorting criteria:

The first is near and far.

The advantage of this choice is that it can make children independent more quickly, and experience a new city and new culture in a place with greater differences. Distance can break a person's psychological dependence, which is difficult to replace.

Second, look at the employment environment.

Similar to computer majors, cities are very important. If it is not in Beijing, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou, where the Internet industry is relatively developed and concentrated, it will be difficult to develop.

Because the core of computer science is: hands-on ability.

It is suitable for people who are good at mathematics, good at logic, curious about new things, and used to explore. So in places where Internet companies get together, it is easy to find internships, and then use the opportunities of internships to open their eyes.

  1. Questions about interest

This could be a point of divergence. Parents think more about employment, while children don't.

This question is more personal.

I remember the three majors that my family chose for me: doctor, accounting, and law. I had no interest in them. I felt that it would be "seeing at a glance", as if once I chose this major, my future life trajectory would be fixed.

The family's reason at that time was: if you have a craft, you won't be afraid of not having a job in the future.

It's not unreasonable to imagine, so can you have both craftsmanship and more choices in the future?

With such a problem, I finally chose the computer. I studied computer science more than ten years ago. It is not as widespread as it is now. It is in line with the characteristics of my good mathematics and logic. However, no one in my family has done it in the future, so I felt a bit like Zhang Yuqi's "X", infinite possibilities. .

Speaking of this case, I don't mean that my choice is right, but that "professionalism and interest" are not necessarily opposed.

Although the whole family is the one who fills the volunteer test, in the end it is the child who truly faces this choice. It is very necessary to listen to the child's thoughts.

Moreover, if you look at it from a distance, even if you choose the wrong one, it is not that there is no chance to change it.

But if there is a "opposition" with the child, any kindness may become a "shackle", which is what parents do not want to see.

write at the end

I also want to explain that it is important to make a choice, but once a choice is made, you must trust your own judgment, because there is no such thing as a waste in life.

Finally, I wish everyone a satisfactory result!
