Debrief on key work you have done once a week

The debriefing should be regular, in my experience, at least once a week.

When I used to work, I insisted on writing a weekly report to my immediate superiors, which helped me reduce a lot of directional errors. Because the superiors are more experienced and have more information on the company's development, they often help me correct inappropriate arrangements in the report in a timely manner. Although most of the time the task items in my weekly report are repetitive, and the replies I receive are usually relatively simple. Simple replies such as "received" and "thank you" are the most common, but these reports ensure that my superiors share with me. common work goals. Sometimes there is a delay in some work, and the superior will give a lot of suggestions and ideas in the reply according to the reported situation, and actively mobilize resources to help me solve the problem. Writing a weekly report can take as long as 20 minutes or as little as 10 minutes, but it can ensure that you are in the same direction as your superiors, that you are doing critical tasks, and your work efficiency and results will naturally be guaranteed.

Whether or not you will have weekly face-to-face meetings with your superiors, writing a weekly report summarizing the key work you have accomplished in the past week and sending it to your superiors and other relevant managers is a very necessary process. The summary report can help the management to understand the progress of your work; to understand that your work has brought great value to the department and the company; to understand your active communication, so that all parties know the progress of your work well and actively cooperate.

In this summary, you only need to list a few tasks that are most relevant to the KPI, and some small things (such as helping a colleague pick up the courier) do not need to appear in such a report. Figure 11-1 is the weekly report of an employee working on healthcare investment data.

If you take a few minutes to read the weekly report, you will find that it has many advantages.

First, three things were written in the weekly newspaper, neither more nor less. Compared with a lengthy report that lists more than a dozen trivial things that are not related to KPIs, this report is focused and easy to read, saving the time of the writer and the reader.

Second, this report describes what has been done in detail. A specific description such as "Shanghai tertiary first-class hospital" is much better than "completed the Shanghai data survey".

Third, the report also gives roughly how long it took to do each thing. This makes it easier for superiors and others reading the report to tell if your workload is too heavy during the week.
