Did you go to university or college? There are 4 differences between the two that students need to know

When filling out the application form for the college entrance examination, many parents found that the name of some colleges and universities is called colleges, and the names of some colleges and universities are called universities. They also belong to higher education venues. What are the differences between them?

The size gap

In many universities, they are divided into colleges, such as a university of finance and economics, which includes the accounting college and the business administration college. It can also be seen from this point that the college is relatively small, so a college called a college is generally relatively small in scale. Many colleges may be only 1/5 of the size of a university, so there is a large gap in the number of students.

The difference between professional categories

The scale of the university is relatively large, and it contains more professional categories, while the number of majors in the college will be smaller and more refined. If you choose a university, there are many types of majors, you can choose according to your interests. But most colleges have a relatively small number of majors. For example, an agricultural college may only have agriculture-related majors, while an agricultural university may also offer science and engineering humanities majors.

  1. Degree of specialization

As mentioned in the second point, colleges generally have fewer types of majors, or even only one major category, so the degree of specialization of colleges is higher. Now, most universities in China are taking a comprehensive direction. Even if it is a science and engineering school, it also includes humanities and social sciences, so it seems that its degree of specialization may be low. For example, there are some art colleges in China. They are more specialized, and their professional strength may be stronger than that of art departments in some comprehensive universities.

Fourth, the strength gap

For an independent and open university, its teaching and scientific research capabilities are relatively strong, meeting China's requirements for higher education institutions. However, in general, the strength of universities is usually better than that of colleges, because many colleges are relatively small, belong to second-level or junior colleges, and their strength is low. From a national perspective, China has more universities, so its comprehensive strength is relatively strong, and it is more recognized by parents and students.

However, it should be noted that there are still some strong colleges in China, such as the China Foreign Affairs University, the School of International Relations, and the Beijing Institute of Electronic Science and Technology. These schools are quite special and have trained countless specialized talents for China. When evaluating the strength of a university, one cannot just look at the name of the university or college.

These are some of the basic differences between universities and colleges. They are all formal and independent colleges and universities in China, and their strengths are good, but there are some gaps in some aspects. College candidates can choose according to their hobbies and the comprehensive strength and professional situation of the school when filling out the application.
