The team went from 120 people to only 2 people, I only used 3 tricks, and after two years it became 500 people again

In the workplace for more than ten years, I have experienced a lot. Today, sharing an experience of my own may be a reference for friends who want to improve and develop themselves in the workplace.

1

Eight years ago, I was in sales management in a foreign company and managed the sales business in a province. There were about 120 people in the sales team below. Since the customers in the entire market and the sales team below were built by myself, the business is done. It is still very smooth and management is relatively easy.

Since the foreign company's work is relatively stable, the work place is close to home, and the relationship with the superiors has always been good, I thought at the time that it would be good to continue doing this job like this.

But it didn't take long for the company's business to expand and the market to readjust. The market under my jurisdiction was assigned to a new region, and a new boss was transferred from the headquarters. I've heard of it before, but I'm not too familiar with it.

For me at the time, I didn't feel that there was any change in this kind of change, because the performance of the market I managed had always been pretty good, so I wasn't too worried.

It's just that next, you must put more effort into building a good relationship with the new boss.

After the new boss took office, he visited the market I was in charge of twice, and the overall impression was not bad.

Shortly after the new boss took office, a business operation manager at the regional headquarters who was in charge of back-office operations and management resigned. It is said that he was fired by the new boss. The main reason was that the new boss thought the manager was too rough and not meticulous. Because this new boss has been managing major accounts across the country before.

After this position was vacant for almost a month, the new boss once visited the market in the area I was in charge of, and chatted with me about it, hoping that I could take up this position.

The team went from 120 people to only 2 people, I only used 3 tricks, and after two years it became 500 people again

I didn't even think about it at the time, so I politely refused, because the main consideration in my heart at that time was:

  1. This is not a promotion, but a horizontal transfer from front management to background management. The salary will not increase, but there is a little extra subsidy for expatriation, and the bonus has to rely on the performance of brothers in various regions.

  2. Those who do back-office management are all vacant positions, have no real power, and have few resources at their disposal. They have to deal with all kinds of complex interpersonal relationships delicately, and they are exhausted.

  3. I have always been leading troops to fight in the past, and my strengths are also in team and customer management. This is a tedious and tedious task for background management. I often do various reports and PPT to report to the headquarters leaders, which is not what I am good at. .

  4. It is very inconvenient to go to work in the city where the regional headquarters is located, and it is too far from home, and personal expenses will also increase.

After rejecting the boss, the boss didn't say anything. About half a month later, there was a meeting at the headquarters. After dinner, the boss and I talked about it again.

Speaking of the importance of this position to the region and the company, and the recognition of my personal work and abilities, etc...

I thought about it a little bit, but still politely rejected the boss again. However, after refusing to go back this time, I kept feeling uneasy in my heart, worried that I would offend the boss by refusing these two times.

In the apprehension, the time soon passed another half a month, and the position of the business operation manager of the regional headquarters has still not been recruited.

The team went from 120 people to only 2 people, I only used 3 tricks, and after two years it became 500 people again

One night, after having dinner with friends and preparing to return to the residence, I suddenly received a call from the boss.

The boss said: "I still want to talk to you about the position of the regional headquarters again, but this is the last time I will ask you. If you really want to have a breakthrough in career development, this is indeed a good time. Chance."

"In order to achieve a management position above the regional director in the company, it must be rotated in multiple departments, so that the comprehensive management ability will be more comprehensive."

After listening, but I didn't immediately reject the boss this time, saying: "Well then, I'll think about it at night"

I went back to my residence and thought about it for a whole night. I thought, this boss has told me for the third time. If I still reject him this time, I would have really offended him. I can't keep my position now. are all problems. Forget it, let’s go bet. If the bet is lost, it’s a big deal to change to another company, but what if the bet wins?

In this way, I bid farewell to the team and customers, came to a strange city, and started a new journey in life.

I went to this unfamiliar city and reported to the company on the first day. The boss told me that we can only arrange 2 subordinates for me in our department at present, which means that there are only 3 people in my team plus me, and two of them are still in the company. Less than 1 year ago, a girl who had little contact with the sales business before.

This is too much contrast with the team I managed 120 people before, and the whole person is full of a sense of loss. I thought to myself, what should I do next? I also hope that the team below are all experienced, so that I can help me through the adaptation period smoothly.

well! As soon as it comes, it is safe, whether it is dead or alive, take a step by step! I went to work with a sense of unease.

To be honest, the first three months of this sales operations manager role were painful for me:

  1. I was in charge of regional sales before, and I have always been used to freedom. It's better now, I spend most of the month in the office, working 9 to 5, which is extremely uncomfortable.

  2. Before, I had to carry sales indicators every month, but I can control these indicators myself, but now the assessment is an indicator of the entire region, which is not something I can control at all.

  3. Previously, in the regional management team, they had the final say, as long as the boss was done. But now it's better, not to mention the satisfaction of the boss, but also to have a good relationship with the regional managers and the leaders of the functional departments of the company headquarters, not to offend them, so as not to be complained by them.

  4. In the previous work, in addition to meeting the team and reporting work to the leaders, I had to do PPT. Now I have to do various reports and PPT every day. I also have to deal with various inspections at the company headquarters. The most important thing is the two little girls in the team. Not yet fully qualified for the job.

But these difficulties cannot be faced without being confronted. You can only grit your teeth and insist, ask if you don’t understand, go to school if you don’t understand, spend your time on the relationship you need to make, and adapt to the boss’s management style.

Soon 3 months passed, and I began to feel more and more about my current job. The two subordinates also made rapid progress, and slowly they began to stand on their own. I never imagined that, for me at the beginning, this and its challenging task can finally let myself breathe a sigh of relief.

After that, my work in my new position was on track, and several projects I was in charge of won several first prizes in PK competitions in various regions of the country.

Two years later, because of his excellent work performance, he was unanimously recognized by the boss and the leaders of the company headquarters. It happened that a director of a large region resigned, and I took over this position logically as the sales director of this region. Managed a team of about 500 subordinates.

From my experience above, I would like to share 3 tips for my friends in the workplace:

  1. Believe in your ability to face any challenge

  2. Learn to adapt quickly to changes

  3. Widen your career width to have a higher height
