Yesterday, the boss was very busy all day, so busy that I had to report something and could only say a word in one minute in the middle of his itinerary. So I entered his office and saw a scene that surprised me: the boss, who has always been graceful as a gentleman, filled his mouth with bread and chewed it. This scene was quite shocking to me.

Every day the boss arrives at the office very early before me. Due to having multiple jobs, Shanghai and Zhenjiang run both places. There was really too much work to do, so the subordinates in Shanghai came to Zhenjiang to continue talking. Yesterday was his first day back to Zhenjiang after the holiday, and I knew he would be very busy. In the morning, I brewed a pot of strong black coffee for him, about 4 cups. Under normal circumstances, after drinking these four cups of black coffee, I will make him a pot of tea. But yesterday he said to make another pot of coffee, stronger. He desperately needs coffee to give him energy. I didn't have time to eat breakfast, so I took out the moon cakes from the refrigerator and ate it. In the morning, the management of Zhenjiang was offered a meeting to resolve urgent matters. Going to the government to meet with officials to talk about things. After I came back, it was a conference call before I had time to eat. In the afternoon, I will have a temporary appointment with the vice president, followed by a conference call. Oh, and there's a meeting going on at the same time, waiting for him to join in to make the final decision.

So there was a scene that shocked me at the beginning. He has always been very concerned about his image, but he really can't take it into account. There was a girl born in the 90s in the company. When she joined the company, she told me that he thought the boss was handsome. I laugh at her nympho. I don't know how he will feel when he sees a boss who doesn't care about his image. I think the boss is more handsome. Not the appearance, but the attitude of doing things.

We often console ourselves by saying that it will be fine when I get through to my position, and I don’t have to work so hard anymore. In fact, we will only work harder. No job is easy.

Different positions have their own troubles. When you are at the grassroots level, there are many things you need to deal with every day in order to meet the expectations of managers and gain their approval. When you become a middle-level, you need to manage your subordinates well, and try to figure out the boss's mind in order to realize the desire for promotion. When you are a high-level executive, you have to make N major decisions in your busy work every day, and you have to bear the good or bad results of these decisions. Your subordinates expect you to lead everyone to a new peak of performance, and your boss expects you to strive for more profits for the group. Every decision you make can make you beautiful, or you can fall to the bottom.

Chicken soup is always saying, look at those who are better than you and work harder than you, what excuse do you have for not fighting? We thought chicken soup was just chicken soup. But in places we can't see, those who are better than us never take these as chicken soup, but as their criteria for doing things and requirements for themselves.

I don't envy my boss's status, money, fame. I don't envy my boss's house in a luxury area of Shanghai. I don't envy my boss's connections and circles beyond our reach.

But I envy his 50-year-old work ethic. I envy him for studying English so hard for his work that he is now better than my grade 8 student. I envy him despite being so busy, yet patiently helping me, the new assistant, to read documents and reports, even a single punctuation error. I envy him for being a gentleman at all times, even when drunk. I envy him for treating every colleague with a smile, no matter what level, even when he's in a bad state.

I don't expect how high a position I can stand in the future, but I want to be as good as him.
