In the competition, at a disadvantage, leave, or keep the clouds open and see the moon?

Competition, one of the fundamental relationships in the workplace, is as common as cooperation. However, under traditional education, many students are adapted to cooperation, but not to competition. So we are most likely to lose ground in the competition.

This is a boy asking for help, we will call him Xiaogang.

Xiaogang entered the product department of a large Internet company as an intern. The company has made it clear that there are 4 internships, and the last 2 will be directly transferred to regulars, while the remaining two can only leave after the expiration of the period.

In this context, the competitive relationship between several interns is self-evident. As for Xiaogang, he felt unlucky.

The department supervisor was obviously better to the other girl, and gave me all the dirty work, such as being in charge of connecting with the government's approval department, in charge of filing files and making manuals, and I often had to work after 10 o'clock.

As for the other girls in the department, their work is user research, using crawler software for statistical data, including cross-departmental meetings. After a month, other interns can use PPT to make research reports, and I only have a pair of standard forms in my hand. , and also go to the various windows of the government to report this and that.

In the second month, Xiaogang felt that life was like a year - if I go on like this, it is impossible to stay in this department with the surplus retained, so what value does this internship have, I might as well leave as soon as possible.

If you were Xiaogang, what would you choose in the second month?

A. Leaving, since it is impossible to become a regular, why should you invest any more energy.

B. Work for another two months, and then talk about it after three months.

C. Stick to it and work for the 6-month internship period.

In the competition, at a disadvantage, leave, or keep the clouds open and see the moon?

Behind every choice is our ability and attitude towards workplace competition. Before giving Xiaogang specific suggestions, let's analyze a few questions:

  1. Are you really in a disadvantageous position? Are the "mechanical" back-office positions in your eyes worthless?

  2. How to analyze the input-output ratio for a platform with an elimination mechanism?

First, look at the value. Compared with others, is your work worthless?

On the whole, in-house jobs are not as prosperous as business jobs. Note that I said prosperity, not value. This prosperity is reflected in the following three aspects:

One is the number of employees and the right to speak. A company has the largest number of people on the business line. R&D, production, marketing, and sales are all people on the business line. Its proportion may account for 90% of the company, and several major departments of the back office add up to 10%. Therefore, there are many positions and people in the business line, and there are many resources, which is naturally the mainstream of the company's discourse. For example, in an IT company, programmers and technical support can chat and laugh about the current technology hotspots, share the joys and sorrows of their work, and be widely spread and valued by leaders. The back office, on the other hand, often presents a "feeling of being unable to talk."

Here is an example. I once met a girl who studied English. After graduating from a bachelor’s degree, she joined a Fortune 500 technology company and worked as a clerk in the sales department. In fact, she used English to make contract documents, and she worked as a translator and documentation. . Later, the girl couldn't take it anymore - I found that I didn't have the right to speak here if I didn't know the technology, so I learned the C language by myself. Now 5 years have passed, and I'm already a senior engineer.

The second is the diversity of work itself. Lines of business, revolving around the social division of labor, are often at the forefront of information exchange at work. For example, for the major customers served by our company, all staff are mobilized to serve them, or if there is a hot event in the industry, then the business line should also respond. As Xiaogang said: other colleagues in the product department work around the business, then they will carry out user portraits, market analysis, and competitive product analysis that can describe the value of work. In terms of conversation, it also closely follows the social situation, which is fashionable and real.

However, from the perspective of workplace logic, rather than chicken soup for the soul, back-office positions and business positions are equally important and valuable.

The logic of the workplace is division of labor and cooperation, so the creation of any post must be a key node in the formation of human division of labor and cooperation for a long time. Back-office positions have existed since ancient times, such as shopkeepers and general managers, and classic TV dramas such as "Da Jang Geum" also describe back-office positions.

A good back-office position can ensure the efficiency of the division of labor and cooperation within the platform. Therefore, major companies often have huge back-office departments. For example, the four major cities have established departments such as "correspondence production", and the work done by Xiaogang, similar to the correspondence, also combines some of the responsibilities of government relations and communication. These jobs do have certain boring factors, which are mainly manifested in the fact that there are many documents and forms, many rules, and less room for innovation.

But any job has to be done by real people, and it needs to be done by capable people. For example, in "Dulala's Promotion", the Shanghai office needs to be renovated. From the communication with the owner, the property report, to the inventory of materials in various departments, Dulala effectively produced various forms and actively communicated with various departments. Done in a few months. In the same way, Xiaogang's work needs to be meticulous and stable, and he must be familiar with the business and the ability to communicate. It is not a "bad job" without a threshold.

In the competition, maybe you have a "bad hand", but don't see the first three cards, just "stop playing" and take a serious look at your hand, what it is.

In the competition, at a disadvantage, leave, or keep the clouds open and see the moon?

Second, how to analyze the input-output ratio of a platform with an elimination mechanism?

It is human nature to want to win, and it is normal to be afraid of losing. In winning or losing, the key is to maximize personal interests. So in a PK, I suggest the following two points.

First, go through a full time period. So please do Xiaogang at least 3 months, if it is a formal job, then at least one year. An internship of less than three months is difficult to write on a resume, and a position of less than one year will be suspected by HR.

Second, do the job well and speak it beautifully. No matter how much you despise a job, as long as you can get paid, it has value. Therefore, around the value of the work, in the resume and work report, beautifully express the meaning of oneself, which is also a responsible attitude towards one's past time, and also a sense of dignity. Then the value of back office positions can be summarized from the perspectives of process optimization, document traces, administrative licensing promotion, and management norms.

Third, go directly to your leader or mentor, and have a candid talk: ask yourself about the odds of staying (winning), and ask for advice. Don't think that this is a sensitive issue that cannot be discussed. Talking directly is the most effective way. If this kind of conversation happens a few times, it can also cultivate your magnanimous and calm aura.

If you have achieved the above three points, you have protected your basic interests, then in a PK, whether you want to exit early or carry it to the end is fine.
