I am Sister Haoyou, specializing in career counseling. In the past five years, in addition to online and offline course sharing, it has also tutored thousands of students one-to-one in their job search—accompanying and helping students in various majors, cities, and situations, choosing careers, getting offers, and Better workplace adaptation.

Now, on the occasion of filling out the application for the college entrance examination, I would like to share my experience of tutoring students for employment, and the precautions and suggestions for filling in the application in reverse.

It is purely a family's words, welcome to make bricks (everyone makes bricks, and can also help us enrich our campus and professional knowledge, thank you).

Here, let me talk about my principles first. If you don’t agree with this principle at all, then there is no need to read it. What is the principle? It is not one size fits all, we need to admit and accept that everyone’s situation is different and requires different coping methods. Specifically, when applying for volunteers, you need to evaluate the situation of students, and then select them in the following order.

When the student has a clear personal opinion, the student's personal opinion > everything.

When students do not have a clear personal opinion and are willing to discuss with their parents and friends, the weighting order is city > or = school > major.

First, when a student has a clear personal opinion, the student's personal opinion > everything.

If a little friend has a clear and clear opinion, and he knows where he wants to go, what school he chooses, and what major he wants, then give this little friend a thumbs up!

It is very rare to have a clear goal in high school. Even if it may change in the future, please support your family. why?

  1. Rebellion is a terrible black hole.

"Learning is not for yourself, but for your parents" This sounds very sad, but the friends who have gone to college still continue to be sad. It is reflected in two aspects: one is that you don’t study well during your studies, which results in a waste of college time; the other is that even if you don’t fail a course and graduate successfully, you will encounter a bigger pit when you are looking for a job, and you don’t know what you will do in the future. What - I don't like my major, and I don't have any specialties. I'm getting more and more confused and anxious.

For example, one of the accounting students I tutored, her mother was an accountant in a well-known local accounting firm, so she insisted on letting her study accounting, so that she could help herself when she came back home to find a job in the future. However, this student has absolutely no interest in accounting.

She is obedient, although her academic performance is okay (after all, she doesn't want to be so embarrassed to fail a course), but she thinks that she will be dealing with numbers every day in the future, and it will be a headache to live the same life as her mother.

As a result, several very good opportunities have fallen on the final face (PS: the final face especially values the individual's inner job-seeking intention), and it is difficult to show the desire for the job when facing the boss's interview questions , The love for the content of this work, unfortunately ended in failure.

This case is not unique. Among the classmates I tutored, those who said at the beginning, "I don't like this major, it was arranged by my parents at the time", the job search process will be more difficult.

Judging from my experience: on the one hand, when applying for a job, you are in a very awkward state, and you are restrained by yourself, and it is difficult for the interviewer to see his shining points; on the other hand, most of your energy is spent on dealing with your parents. With pressure, it is difficult to form a clear career plan, and people without goals do not know where to move forward. They seem to be running during the job search process, but in fact they have no inner motivation.

  1. Loving one's major is itself an advantage in job hunting.

First of all, "interest is the best teacher", so if you like your major, you will usually get better grades in your studies, which in itself is competitive, and if you really like your major, you will be more comfortable when you study, and you can easily have a share. Professional pride.

Secondly, when employers are recruiting, the most important thing is the internal driving force, that is, whether the student is sincere about the job. Therefore, "doing what you like" is one of the most important resources for newcomers to the workplace.

For example, my eldest brother's son is studying rail transit, and he likes this major very much. Every time I see him, I hear him talk about the development status of China's rail transit, which fields have made breakthrough progress, engaged in How the big cows in this industry made him envious and so on, so, it is conceivable that his own achievements are also quite excellent. If you're an employer, do you also enjoy being an employee of your company and have an inherent passion for the job you're going to do?

  1. What should I do if the student chooses his own major, but he doesn't like it later?

This is also very common. For example, some classmates feel that they like small animals very much, so they go to study animal medicine, but when they really learn, various anatomy and dirty work will find themselves falling into the pit and regretting it.

At this time, don't sarcastically say, "You see you didn't listen to me at the time." As a parent, don't panic. In fact, "learning to take responsibility for your choices and find a way to stop your losses in a timely manner" is something that adults who are about to enter the workplace should learn. , it is better to guide him to analyze the current situation and make adjustments. After experiencing setbacks, the path you choose carefully is more worth cherishing. This in itself is a very good harvest.

Second, when students do not have a clear personal opinion and are willing to discuss with their parents and friends, the weighting order is city > or = school > major.

When students have no clear hobby goals themselves and are willing to discuss with their parents, the following sequence of choices can be activated-

city >= school > major.

  1. City

A city is a gathering place for people, and of course it means more opportunities. For example, in some first-class undergraduate colleges, in second- and third-tier cities, it is difficult for students to find suitable internship opportunities in the summer (even need to go to Waifu cities to find internships), and the school recruitment opportunities are relatively weak. In the first-tier cities, some schools that are not well-known will have more internship opportunities in nearby companies, and the job search cost is relatively small. For example, some old municipal colleges and universities in Beijing, such as Beijing Wuzi College, have long-term cooperation with JD.com, and JD.com also has large-scale school recruitment every year.

Of course, the choice of cities is not limited to first-tier cities, but can also be combined with majors to make more accurate choices, such as artificial intelligence, Internet majors, and there is a good atmosphere in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Nanjing, Guangzhou, and Chengdu; games , animation, not only good industries in Xiamen, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, but also a good export trade momentum; big data majors are also developing in Baotou and Guiyang; and finance, public relations, and consulting industries will have more opportunities in Shanghai.

In addition, here I say that the city factor is sometimes equal to the school. If there are students who are determined to study for graduate school or go abroad, then the top-ranked schools are easier to apply for postgraduate entrance examinations and apply to good foreign schools. At this time, you can put down the city preference ranking. Moreover, it is as powerful as the University of Science and Technology of China. Although it is not in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, it is also very useful for learning real skills.

  1. School.

Recently, the Mykos Research Institute released the "Employment Blue Book: 2019 Employment Report for Chinese College Students". According to the survey, 40% of the 2015 college students changed careers within three years of graduation, and 43% of the 2015 college students changed within three years of graduation. the industry. Among them, 65% of the 2015 undergraduates have a job-professional correlation three years after graduation, and 56% of the 2015 higher vocational college students’ work-professional correlation three years after graduation.

Therefore, the restrictions on personal development by majors are becoming lower and lower, especially social sciences, economics, and natural sciences (such as biology, video, gardening, and soil and water conservation majors we tutor, really do anything). However, the rigid conditions for campus recruitment of many companies are based on school level and educational level, rather than majors.

For example, some public schools in Beijing are recruiting subject teachers, requiring a master's degree, and both undergraduate and master's schools are required to be above 211. At this time, if you study environmental engineering and want to become a chemistry teacher, it is also possible; while some Fortune 500 teachers Enterprises will also give priority to the school level, and your major is second.

  1. Professional.

Although there are many factors for volunteering to apply for the exam, the major is not worth mentioning, and the major is often a prominent point of students' hobbies.

However, there are also many students who do not have clear hobbies and goals. After determining the city and school, what major should they choose? My suggestion is that if the student has good learning ability and certain pressure resistance, I recommend a major with a higher mathematics component.

Which majors are higher in mathematics? Applied mathematics, communication, computer, financial engineering, electrical automation, etc. In this type of major, there are 4-6 subjects about mathematics in the first and second year of the regular freshman year. The pressure of study will be a little big, but the professional hard core is strong.

Why are mathematics-related majors better for employment? Because mathematics is the basic layer of the current popular industry technology, as long as you learn it well, the port will be very good after graduation. And the corresponding big data, programming and popular jobs really need mathematical foundation.

The above suggestions are not my personal emphasis on rationale and light articles, but are indeed out of practical considerations. In the past few years, judging from various popular employment big data lists and my own feelings, the graduation salary of science and engineering students is higher than that of liberal arts.

Moreover, it is relatively easy to transfer from science and engineering to liberal arts, but conversely, the difficulty coefficient of "literature transfer" is much greater. For example, in the financial industry and consulting industry, in addition to related majors, there are also many people with a background in science and engineering; but very few people transfer from liberal arts majors to popular high-paying jobs such as big data, information engineering, communication engineering, and computer technology (I once shared There have been some cases, but it does require arduous effort).

Of course, these majors do have a lot of pressure, heavy learning tasks, and many competitions in good schools. You need to evaluate your stress resistance and learning ability yourself. I also tutored and chose communication engineering. However, in my sophomore year, I felt that I could not compete with others, and I was on the verge of failing the course. All kinds of students who struggled and became very frustrated. Therefore, this suggestion, we must objectively evaluate your own learning preferences.

In addition, let’s talk about the “four major tiankeng” majors of biochemical ring materials that are widely complained by everyone—that is, the four majors of biology, chemistry, environment, and materials are difficult to study, work hard and find employment, so they are called tiankeng. This is an exaggerated statement. The employment environment for these four majors is indeed a bit tougher, but if you study well and have a strong overall quality, there are also top employment channels.

  • There are indeed places where the employment of these four majors is not good.

For example, biology has low wages in the past few years, and the industry recruiting volume is not large; in chemistry, there will be shift shifts when entering the factory, and sometimes the working environment temperature is low, which is not good for health; the field of environmental majors, especially heavy industry, also has low wages. High and the management of the factory is not very modern; the material specialty is similar to the environment. I tutored a girl who majored in 985 capital and environmental protection. After graduation, she entered a company related to sewage treatment equipment to do research and development, with a monthly salary of 6,000. After two years, she resigned.

-I will also introduce the good employment directions of these four majors.

The employment of biology majors has improved significantly since this year. For R&D positions and sales positions in genetics, medicine, and protein, the monthly salary of 8000-10000 has begun to increase; in chemistry, if you enter fast-moving consumer goods and cosmetics, the working environment and treatment The page is good; in the resource and environment major, I have mentored students from this major to enter the real estate industry every year, which is a high-return industry; and resources and environment, materials science, you can also take the path of procurement. For example, Unilever's supply chain management will recruit students who major in resource environment and materials. Of course, a good career direction requires hard work—you need to study well, have a lot of internships, be good at English, and have a strong comprehensive ability.

Finally, although biochemical environmental materials always complain about themselves, in fact, based on my own counseling experience, there are things that are more difficult than them, that is, natural science and small languages.

Natural sciences, such as geological exploration, desertification control, forest products and chemical engineering, are easier for boys to get employment in. For girls, they need a strong psychological quality and prepare for employment as soon as possible.

Small languages, such as girls who I have tutored Russian majors, are very professional and capable, but companies that use Russian are either large state-owned enterprises or small private enterprises. In state-owned enterprises, the barriers to entry are high and it is easier for boys to enter, so the competition pressure for girls will be greater. This year, I also tutored a Vietnamese-speaking girl. To be honest, boys have an advantage in the examination of border civil servants. Fortunately, the trade industry in Guangzhou and Guangxi is good, and the business field is also proficient (PS: French, German, Japanese And Korean, although it is also a small language, I feel that the job search field is not bad, stronger than Russian and Vietnamese).

In short, a school has set up a major. If you stop and think about it, you will definitely be able to find an industry and platform that matches your major.

Here is a piece of dry stuff. I understand that what can be called an industry usually includes the following three parts: industry producers, party B serving the industry (such as public relations, headhunters, and publishing media that are vertical to this industry), industry regulators ( associations, government-related units). Looking for opportunities along this line, the thinking will be broader.

In the end, no matter what college you choose, I have two suggestions for how to spend your college years:

First, the walls of education are gradually being opened, so if you want to learn, there are many resources, and there are many means to make up for the lack of education.

For example, minors and second degrees in prestigious schools, such as Peking University and Tsinghua University, also have second degrees or elective courses. I went to do career counseling for Peking University Economics and Shuang College, which is a very good second degree of Peking University brand. Many students from other colleges and universities come to study this, and they can get a degree related to Peking University in two years (but the cost is not cheap, it seems to be tens of thousands).

Another example is online teaching and some well-known courses in MOOCs. If you take a few more courses when you graduate, you can enrich your knowledge and prove yourself on your resume.

Second, and more importantly, through university, grow into a person with stable character and social adaptability.

I have always believed that what a first-class university has third-class students, and what a third-class university also has first-class students. If the students actively participate in various practices in the university, take the English test certificate, and ensure high grade points and credits, then they will graduate with confidence and real competitiveness. Therefore, I repeatedly reminded that in college, don't be too housebound.

The above are some suggestions and precautions for choosing volunteers based on helping students find employment. I hope they will inspire everyone. Finally, end with three sentences:

The first sentence: A choice does not determine the whole life, you can change and choose again through actions at any time.

The second sentence: The social economy is dynamic, so is the employment after graduation. Maybe there will be new changes in Russian language, garland materials, computers, etc. next year (so I will update this school selection suggestion every year).

The third sentence: Welcome to Paizhuan and communication, help me to enrich the information.
