As soon as the interview comes, my mind will not turn, what should I do?

You must have never imagined that Lily, who asked me this question, had such a wonderful experience

> > When the junior was an intern in a trading company, he accompanied the boss to receive international customers and did accompanying translation. >

> > At the same time, he is the head of the propaganda department of the school English club. >

> > Also through the selection application, participated in a "business elite training" of a chamber of commerce. >

> > In addition, he has done a campus agent and agent driver's license test, with sales of 50,000. >

Although there are no glittering big platforms and big companies in these experiences, it is not difficult to see that this must be a girl full of energy, sunshine and enthusiasm.

Moreover, from our communication, we can also see: Lily's future job-seeking intention is very clear, that is, English + education.

Lily's resume is of course also very good, and the delivery goal is clear. This is the job-seeking advantage that Sister Haoyou often says. Sure enough, after she submitted her resume, she received an interview invitation, but the next reversal of the story came during the interview—

First interview with Lily, Wall Street English Course Consultant

Interviewer: Please introduce yourself.

Lily: I'm Lily. I graduated from XXX School with a major in Business English. When I was in school, I participated in business etiquette training. In my last internship, I accompanied my boss to receive customers from Russia and the United Kingdom. The reason I left my last internship was because no one took me and I felt that foreign trade was not my direction.

Interviewer: Tell us what you learned in your last internship?

Lily: Well, nothing, how to get along with foreigners.

Interviewer: Tell me about your strengths and weaknesses?

Lily: Ah, this question is very difficult. My advantage is that I'm honest, but my disadvantage is... My previous boss and teacher said that I didn't pay attention to details and didn't go deep enough.

Interviewer: Do you have any questions for me?

Lily: No more.

The above is a review of the main process of Lily going out for an interview. She was also very distressed: about the strengths and weaknesses, about what she had learned from the previous experiences, she really didn't know how to say it, and she didn't have a word in her mind, it was empty.

Obviously, this is a failed interview, and the person interviewing her may be very confused:

Is this girl's resume real?

How can you not see the ideas and abilities that you should have at all?

Is she perfunctory for answering me like that?

This situation is not uncommon, and many people's interview performance is far from their usual performance.

Because I am a counselor, it is easier for everyone to speak their own psychological words, so I did not make any judgments, but guided Lily to do more sharing:

I asked: You have been an intern in a foreign trade company for 6 months. What do you find most impressive?

Lily: I communicate with foreigners because I think my English is really useful.

I continued to ask: Why do you have the opportunity to communicate with foreigners, and why does the boss bring you to meet customers? Can you tell me about your internship experience in the past few months? I'm very curious.

Lily: The boss was very nice at the time. She often asks me: How do you respond to customer questions? Then I said, I'm going to respond like this. She pointed out the unprofessional places to me. Give me some useful directions at critical moments, especially my boss. He will teach me some directions on how to contact this customer, and then tell me the rhythm and the situation to win the customer.

Moreover, when I wrote English emails and drafted English documents, I always made mistakes in capitalization. The boss even joked with me: You are not old, why can't you remember these details? Let me know that I have so many mistakes in the original details.

Later, I took the initiative to send an email to an Indian customer in the way of my boss, and the customer actually responded. Then we also made a phone call. He is an agent of Ford Motors. When he came to China, he also visited our company. Although the order was not completed, this event gave me a lot of confidence. The boss also praised me, so he took me to see more clients slowly.

I feel that the guidance my boss gave me, especially in terms of contact and promotion with customers, has benefited me a lot. Later, the boss wanted me to stay as an employee, but I still didn’t like the trade industry so much, and the company only had about 10 people, it was a small company, and it didn’t have its own core products. So I resigned, feeling very sorry for the boss's cultivation of me.

Me: How well you say that!

Based on the above, for the next interview, I have the following suggestions:

  1. Before the interview, review your experience with your resume - a 360-degree review is required. The hard indicator is that you can describe the process and details of each experience in more than 300 words.

  2. Self-introduction in the interview , emphasizing your basic English + customer service ability, needless to say why you left the previous company. Wait until the chat is over, and the other party asks you to answer.

  3. If you talk about your own advantages in the interview , you can talk about your initiative and execution by actively contacting Indian customers. The shortcomings can be brought out by the boss's words, saying that he is not careful enough in details such as documents, and saying that "I know there is a problem here, and I will pay more attention".

  4. What you learned in the last job , just use the boss at that time to guide you on how to reply to customers and how to recommend orders, saying that you have learned customer communication and sales performance.

None of the above 4 suggestions is a lie, pretentious and beautify oneself, just put yourself into the job search process and strive for it.

After giving Lily feedback, I couldn't help but wonder - why can't Lily say these vivid and touching things in the interview? Why does her interview answer give people a perfunctory and careless feeling? (Actually, my mind stopped all of a sudden).

She panicked, or to use a more professional term, neurosuppression, that is , the information was not transmitted smoothly in her brain. So why is it not passing well, because you have anxiety.

From Lily's description, it seems that "leaving the boss of a trading company who is very good to me" is defined as a wrong thing, and he will always try his best to prove that he is actually justifiable for doing so.

This sense of burden makes you introduce yourself during the interview, instead of talking about your own advantages, but emphasizing why you left, as if everyone else is accusing you of leaving.

This kind of burden also makes you unable to sum up this very fulfilling and wonderful internship experience.

Therefore, after the specific interview operation level suggestions, there are two more thoughtful suggestions for Lily:

First, you communicate openly and honestly with the boss of the previous internship company, express your gratitude, and you can also ask the boss for his advice on your own development. As you said, a good boss won't force you to stay.

Second, before the interview, you really need to prepare your own experience and state carefully, and get through your inner information transmission.

I wish you the best of luck in finding the offer you like, and I wish you more and more comfortable.
