The difference between a master and an ordinary person lies in 'questioning awareness'

Ask one more step to go one more step to the essence

A child did an experiment:

He put a spider on the table and yelled at the spider, which scared away.

He grabbed the spider again, cut off all of the spider's feet, and shouted at the spider again, and the spider stopped moving.

Thus, he concluded: "The hearing of spiders is in the feet".

Every time I finish this story, a lot of people laugh out loud.

But in the process of exploring the unknown world, our understanding of the nature of things may not be much better than this child.

For example, a child who studies well, do you know why he studies well?

Most likely because he is very hardworking. But why is he working so hard? Maybe it's because he tasted the sweetness of learning, or maybe he wants to make his parents proud of him.

What is the essence behind this matter, it is necessary to further investigate the reasons. But many parents often overlook this.

The difference between a master and an ordinary person lies in "questioning awareness"

For another example, in the workplace, what the leader explained to you has not been completed, why?

Maybe you're doing so much that you simply don't have time for the job. But why are you doing so much? Because you don't have a vertical professional skill, or maybe because you are outstanding, the leaders trust you.

The essential reasons, whether employees themselves or leaders, need to ask more about the reasons in order to break some dead cycles. But many people often just stay at the superficial reason, and will not force themselves to ask more why.

If you don't discover the essence of things, you will always stay on a wrong cognition just like the children who did the experiment above.

Only by finding the essence of things and doing things can you be on the right path, run all the way, and get twice the result with half the effort.

In the workshop of a factory, the leader found a pool of oil stains on the ground, and asked the employees why there was a pool of oil stains on the ground? The employee said it was because the machine was leaking oil.

Does that mean repairing the machine and wiping off the oil will solve it?

But this only solves the problem on the surface. To find the essential reason, we need to ask more questions:

Why is the machine leaking oil? Because the pads are old.

Why do rubber pads age prematurely? Because the quality of this batch of rubber pads is not good.

Why is the quality not good? Because of the change in the purchasing scheme, the price is cheaper.

Only by asking questions and finding the essential reasons behind the problem can we fundamentally contain the problem and prevent the problem from continuing and recurring.

Dare to expose problems and ask why. Turning "done" into "done" in repeated questioning, can each work be truly targeted and hit the nail on the head.

Therefore, if you encounter problems at work or in life, you may wish to ask a few more whys. The more you ask, the more you go to the essence.

The difference between a master and an ordinary person lies in "questioning awareness"

"Questioning awareness" is the basic skill of top masters

Yesterday, I listened to a sharing by Luo Zhenyu. One of them mentioned that there are generally three levels of sales:

The first level, ordinary salesperson. Their first lesson is to learn how to face rejection. A salesperson at this level will be discouraged and emotionally frustrated in the face of customer rejection.

Second level, good salesperson. They handle their emotions well and then greet the next client.

The third level, sales master. In the face of rejection, if they can tap the hidden opportunities behind it, and do a good job of classifying them, it is possible to turn rejection into a deal.

When sales experts encounter problems, they will not wait passively. They will think:

"Why did the client reject me?"

"Why don't customers have demand for our products?"

"Customers have demand for our products, why not accept it?"

The well-known author Cheng Jia once wrote in an article:

No matter in life or study, if you are hit by something and "move your feelings", you must consciously remind yourself to ask the reason.

Why did this movie scene move me so much?

Why do I like this product so much?

Why is this client rejecting me?

This is the basic skill for masters to learn, first use perceptual ability to make choices, and then use rational ability to think.

"Emotional" is the perceptual ability, and "questioning consciousness" is the rational ability. Sensibility comes first, rationality comes second. Finally, through rational thinking, find the essential reason behind it.

How to develop the habit of "questioning"

If you ask one more question about why, you will be one step closer to the truth, and you will be able to increase the depth of your thinking and achieve an effective breakthrough. After all, many creations and methods are born from in-depth thinking.

It can be said that asking why one by one and going one step further is a powerful weapon for people to achieve success.

Charlie Munger once said:

If you want to be smart, the question you have to keep asking is "why, why, why."

So how do ordinary people develop the habit of "questioning"?

Method 1: When the trigger point is encountered, stop in time.

Cheng Jia once mentioned in an article how he read:

When he sees a particularly illuminating piece of content, he immediately stops reading. What do you do after you stop reading?

That is, he would ask himself questions around this trigger:

Why did this point inspire me just now?

Can I use this heuristic point for 3 different things?

Is there any other similar knowledge for this heuristic point?

This set of reading methods, which he calls the "fuse and do not read method", that is, stop reading as soon as there is touching content.

In the same way, when we encounter trigger points with emotional fluctuations, don’t rush forward, stop first, and ask ourselves why such emotions are generated. The signal sent by the subconscious mind will lead you to find the reason behind it through questioning.

Method 2: Do anything and think about it, 3W analysis

Usually we analyze the problem, the most commonly used is the 3W analysis method:

WHAT, is the essence.

WHY, why.

HOW, what to do.

This method has been used in our study period, but many people have not fully grasped it.

For example: x+5=8, how much does x equal.

In this question, we only know the method is to move the number 5 on the left to the right, the plus sign becomes a minus sign, and finally: x=8-5, which is equal to 3.

But this is just HOW, how to do it. Do you know the essence WHAT and the reason WHY?

This question is a case mentioned by Mr. Liu Run when he was teaching his son.

Teacher Liu Run said: "I will give you an easy-to-understand method and formula, which is HOW. But if you don't understand the essential reasons, it may be easy to forget those formulas in the future."

The essence of this question is:

The equal sign of the equation means that the values on both sides are equal, then the two same numbers are added, subtracted, multiplied and divided, and the same operations are performed, then the results must be the same.

So, x+5=8, subtracting 5 from both sides at the same time, it becomes:

X+5-5=8-5

X=8-5

After understanding the essential reasons, whether it is addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, it can be quickly calculated by doing the same operation on both sides.

This is the foundation of learning. Only by laying a solid foundation can you make faster progress in future learning.

The difference between a master and an ordinary person lies in "questioning awareness"

The same is true in the workplace, don't just blindly pursue the method, regardless of the nature and reasons behind it. Only by asking one more why can you discover the essence and have transferable learning ability, so that you can go further and further on the road of the workplace.
