Hi, I'm Quicksand, and I want to talk to you about promotion today. Let me tell you a little story first.

That year, I got a promotion after taking a job that I was only qualified for 50% of the time!

When I graduated that year, I was neither a scholar nor a prominent educational background. Although I had a master’s degree, it was not an advantage in the era of master’s degree. Like all recent graduates, I started a vast job search, and finally entered a consulting company that was neither good nor bad. After that, the ordinary and monotonous Bei drifters struggled to survive for three years. In a city like Beijing, supporting oneself is the first priority. Therefore, in the first three years of work, the first priority is to survive, and the future is also confused and overwhelmed. Many actions in the workplace It's all subconscious, and there is no career plan to speak of.

The turning point of my career occurred in more than three years and almost four years. At that time, I just jumped from one company to another company, catching up with the company to do a data product, but there was no suitable project leader. I have some data base, and the leader found me and asked if I would like to try it. With my ability at the time, I was capable of about 50%, but when I first joined the company, I felt that the opportunity was good. Although there was pressure, I still went ahead.

My hard days have just begun. In addition to ensuring the smooth progress of the project itself, I also have to use my non-working time to learn and explore the remaining 50% of my abilities that I do not have. I am faced with time management, project management, inter-departmental communication, professional data analysis, resource allocation, external business communication, Many challenges to writing skills. It can be said that the leader and myself pushed me into a desperate situation, but in the end I survived. Not only did I successfully complete the construction of data products, but also introduced business cooperation, and the company's brand was also spread to a certain extent. With this project, I ushered in my first management position in my career. After that , it took me about 5 years to complete the promotion from grass-roots executive to supervisor to manager to department director.

OK, I have prepared so much ahead, not to tell a story that seems a little inspirational, but to use my own experience to tell everyone that there are traces of career advancement. Some people may say that 5 years is not too short. Yes, in today's era when there are so many talents and you may be poached when you go to the toilet, it only takes minutes for someone to become the CEO and reach the pinnacle of life, but don't forget Since we are all ordinary majority, that kind of pie-in-the-sky thing only happens to very few people. We still have to do what we can do honestly, try to avoid detours in the process, and shorten our promotion path as short and shorter as possible. I used it for 5 years, and I hope that you who are reading the article can use it for 3 years, 2 years, 1 year, and even from the moment you just graduated and entered the workplace, you have found the right direction.

Well, since today's theme is promotion, we must do something for everyone. If you want to be promoted, have you done the following 4 points?

01 Work performance must exceed 100%

Remember, it's not about doing your part, it's about exceeding expectations. Leaders want 1, you can give 123. For example, it is best to understand the sales position. Your goal is 1 million, then if you want to achieve 1.2 million or even 1.5 million, it is beyond expectations; the leader wants you to represent him in the meeting this time, he explained the content of the meeting, and you not only The leader completed the task, and also perfectly demonstrated the work performance of the department and the leader at the meeting, and showed his face well in front of the whole company, which is also called exceeding expectations;

To give two more examples, you have to complete a market research. Not only do you have a thorough understanding of the entire market, you understand the situation, but you also formulate an action plan that is well-founded. This is also called exceeding expectations. In the example above, I completed the project and conducted additional business cooperation, which is also called exceeding expectations.

So, do you get it? After receiving a task, don't rush to do it right away, and carefully analyze what additional feedback you can have beyond your expectations in addition to completing it according to the leader's requirements. Think about your usual dedication to preparing gifts for your boyfriend or girlfriend, and the feeling of devoting 200% of your heart and soul to the smile of the goddess. Bring this kind of heart to work, and you will know that you are now It's probably not enough; just think about how you feel when you get a surprise, right? That's how your leadership feels after you've exceeded your expectations. How about it, it's very hi, then let's act. This kind of thing doesn't need to be many, once or twice is enough to make you stand out.

02 Must be good at reporting your performance

Many people will fall into two extremes, or they will hang around in front of their leaders all day long, trying to get familiar with them and let the leaders remember you, thinking that they will have a chance, but it is a big mistake! Leaders also want to take credit for their performance and their leaders. If you only rely on your familiarity to win the leader's approval without any outstanding achievements, the leader will only think that you are playing tricks and won't do practical things. There is also a type of people who just bury their heads in hard work and don’t look up to the sky, thinking that as long as they make achievements, the leaders will see it naturally, and they never actively communicate with the leaders. Granted, those beaten expectations in point 1 might have the opportunity to go abroad, because it was too shocking and done too well; but what about other jobs? Do you expect the leaders who are in charge of every day to chase after you every day? If you don't say that the leader will never know, there may be other colleagues who will steal the credit.

Therefore, to be good at reporting your performance, you should let your leaders know and recognize your performance at the right time and in the right way. Here, the appropriate timing refers to the progress made by a certain task or the resolution of major problems or some important nodes; the appropriate way is that you have to prepare carefully for this report and show the biggest highlights of the task without needing to Deliberately emphasize your contribution, when the bright spot is obtained by the leader, it is naturally when your contribution is recognized. Regarding how to report, I can only summarize it in this article. If you are interested, you can pay attention to my workplace report series.

03 Seize the opportunity and step out of the comfort zone

In the above, I bite the bullet and take the example where I can only do 50% of the work. Have you been touched a little? That's what timing means. Some people are more fortunate, and they are just prepared when the opportunity comes; but most of the time most people are not prepared, and the opportunity is fleeting, so what do you do?

We may be getting tired of chicken soup: Opportunities are for those who are prepared! But the saying still applies here. So, here I offer two solutions: First, from now on, see where your comfort zone is. You might as well work against yourself, pick a task that you think is challenging and set your own goals to complete, preferably with you Now work-related, prepare for any opportunities that may come; second, if there happens to be such an opportunity, and you are not 100% sure about holding it, then I suggest catching it first, and then side by side. Learn by doing and step out of your comfort zone. This process is very hard, and I understand it very well, because I have experienced it myself. But please believe me, after such a painful and inhuman torture, you will definitely be able to understand what it means to be advanced, and your career path is waiting for you in front of you!

04 Consciously develop your own management skills

Some people say that I am still an ordinary employee at the grassroots level, how can I have the opportunity to cultivate? In fact, management ability is reflected in many places. Let me recall, everyone should have participated in some WeChat training camps, group punch cards and other activities to a greater or lesser extent. Is it often the group owner who recruits the role of class representative or class assistant? Eager to try but intimidated?

I might as well make a bold guess. Sometimes you are really busy with work, you don’t read the group information, or you don’t have the energy to apply for the job, but many times you are afraid to apply for reasons such as shyness, cowardice, or low self-esteem. There is no technical content as an excuse to hide his cowardice! Did I guess right? In fact, this type of role in the community is a good opportunity to exercise your management skills. At least your organizational skills, communication skills, public expression skills, and coordination skills can be reflected and brought into play, which are all essential qualities as a manager!

Then you can expand the scope of your memories. How many times have you been hiding behind others when someone needed to stand up as the organizer, leader, and person in charge! You must not know that you have missed N times of opportunities to exercise your management ability! So, from now on, if there are group activities, training camps, reading clubs, clubs, etc., any opportunity that allows you to be the leader of a certain task, express yourself boldly and consciously cultivate your management skills. You will find that the so-called good at sometimes is just skilled! If you gradually accumulate in such little things, one day when you actually take the position of a manager, you will be able to organize, communicate, express, and coordinate, rather than starting from the day you take office. Learn how to be a competent manager because you are prepared and you have thrown people out several streets! Excited to think about it!

These are the four tips for promotion that I want to share today. Many friends say, it's so difficult! Yes, of course it is difficult, because there is only one CEO in the whole company, only two or three vice presidents, and only a few department heads. If it is so easy, why are you still in the crowd, the general public? So if you are unwilling to work for many years and still be a grassroots, and you have to go through a lot of detours when you first enter the workplace to realize your desire for promotion, then act now. Make performance that exceeds expectations, report work in a timely manner, seize the opportunity bravely, and consciously cultivate management capabilities . I only hope that through my advice, this difficult thing will become a little more difficult, and I also hope that you will soon be able to become an executive and reverse your life.
