Will new variants and new strains bring about a new wave of peaks?

On May 2, local time, Dr. Farid Abdullah, a medical expert from the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), said at a press conference that in the next period of time, the newly discovered Omicron mutant strains will be affected. Two new variants, BA.4 and BA.5, are very likely to become the peak of a new wave of epidemics .

Scientists at the South African Gene Sequencing Research Institute said that the new virus Omicron subtype variants BA.4 and BA.5 discovered in South Africa this month are likely to be able to evade vaccines and the natural immunity of infected people. South African expert Tulio said that compared with BA.2 and BA.1, BA.4 and BA.5 may be more contagious. From the data of various countries, the virus strain is more contagious than the currently popular Omicron BA.2, but there are still relatively few global cases.

This information also brings us to three very important questions:

  1. Can we humans really eliminate the virus? At least from the current historical point of view, human beings have no ability to completely eliminate viruses, and even bacteria are very difficult, and can only find some balance with the help of the immune system;

  2. Once a new strain appears and can spread on a large scale, it means that it has successfully broken through the immune barrier constructed by humans with the help of vaccines, and the rest is to rely on the balance of the autoimmune system;

  3. If the virus mutates to a situation that does not cause serious damage to the human body, and human beings hope to continue to use drugs to not leave room for them to survive, will it cause the virus to evolve into a more dangerous unknown body in order to survive?

The problems that we humans can solve with the help of drugs are too limited. In fact, it has never been drugs, but our autoimmune system, that guarantees the safety of human beings in the process of coexisting in harmony with nature . And viruses are the ancestors of our human ancestors. Before there were no humans, viruses occupied the earth. We should thank the virus for leaving some space for us to live, and some viruses in our body help us to eliminate some invading unknown viruses.

At present, what we really need to do is to fear nature, viruses, and life. We cannot blindly exaggerate our human capabilities. We are still very small in nature and viruses. If we must try to eliminate the virus through various vaccine upgrades, maybe one day when the former ruler of the earth is angry, the price that human beings will pay will be even greater.
